Description
Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) is a widely used basal medium for supporting the growth of a wide variety of mammalian cells including primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, smooth muscle cells, as well as cell lines such as HeLa, HEK-293, COS-7, and PC-12.
DMEM contains high glucose with phenol red, sodium bicarbonate, sodium pyruvate, L-alanyl-L-glutamine and HEPES. Compared to L-glutamine, L-alanyl-L-glutamine is more stable in solutions and reduces the build-up of toxic ammonia. This makes it a good substitute for L-glutamine.
